Gameplay
RockClones plays similar to the NES Mega Man titles. The player is able to jump, shoot, and defeat enemies. The finished stages end with somewhat difficult boss fights against that stages' antagonist.
The game also features a shop where you can purchase 1-UPs, protective items, and some permanent upgrades.

Story
After the events of FNaS 4, the main 4 clones are sent to a storage unit. Their bodies are returned to normal and they are given help to prevent them from turning evil at night.
The game opens with a cutscene showing that the city is under attack, and because the original heroes are nowhere to be found, the clones take it upon themselves to deal with the threat. Tails develops a new weapon known as the Doppel-Buster, giving the clones a ranged attack, but at the cost of Sonic and Tails' ability to curl into a ball.
In the beginning of the game, the player travels to Peaceful Peaks to meet Dr. Golden, the villain of the game. There, they also see Toy Sonic and Toy Mario, now rebuilt with powerful weapons by Dr. Golden to be far more dangerous.
Throughout the story, the player travels across the many stages to defeat each of the toys. After defeating all 6, the player would then travel to 4 more stages to defeat the shadows, melty and unstable clones of the main cast.
Finally, after defeating the shadows, the player travels to the Golden Castle, Dr. Golden's home base, built over Angel Island. The player storms the castle, defeating many of Dr. Golden's mechs and the brand new Metal Sonic-styled mirrors to each of the clones. At the end, the player then uses the 7 Chaos Emeralds to defeat Dr. Golden and free him from the control of Eggman, ending the story.
In the other endings where the player does not get the Chaos Emeralds, the player instead defeats Dr. Golden, and his castle begins to crumble. The player would have limited time to escape and save the other clones. If any of the clones didn't make it out, it would lead to the bad ending. If the player saves all of them, it would lead to the neutral ending.
Trivia
  • This game was initially meant to be a Mega Man fangame with nothing to do with FNaS. Funnily enough, Toy Sonic was initially meant to be called "Bounce Man" before the Bounce Man from Mega Man 11 existed.
  • RockClones was made into a FNaS game after TheCyVap lost the files to FNaSTale, the original finale to the FNaS series.
  • This is the only official game to run in widescreen.
  • In the character select, Mario is referred to as "Mario 'Jumpman' Mario'. This is a reference to a Game Theory video where MatPat referred to Mario as this.
  • In the shop, you can see Luigi's hat. This is a callback to FNaS 4, as the clones kept his hat after the events of its story.
  • RockClones was planned to have a post-update Encore Mode, based on the mode of the same name from Sonic Mania. The mode would have featured Sonic, Mario, Yoshi, Tails, Dr. Golden, and either Mighty or Ray, chosen by the player at the beginning of the adventure. If a character died in this mode, they would be permanently gone for the rest of the playthrough.
  • In the files, there exists sprites for Clone Shadow and Lefty Sonic. These characters were initially meant to be post-game rewards.
  • There exists sprites for unrelated characters such as Joker from Persona 5 and Isabelle from Animal Crossing. These characters were going to be featured in "Ultimate Mode", a gamemode with many crossover characters in a similar style to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • In the initial release of Beta 11-F, the game would indefinitely crash if your computer's month was set to April. This is because of a minor typo in the code. This was fixed in the re-release in the FNaS Collection.
